In addition, understanding your clients product and business goals is crucial to ensuring the long term success of not only the product but the business as well. The following are important questions to answer during the research and discovery phase.
- Who is the audience and what are their needs?
- What is the clients why?
- What are the clients business goals?
- Are there any requirements and restrictions that might affect the design process?
- How will the product address the clients goals and users needs?

Each step of my design process builds upon the next. This ensures that I am building a product with a strong foundation. The following are things I use to build a successful product:
- Moodboarding
- Style Guide
- Sketching
- Gray Scale Wireframing
- High Fidelity Compositions
- Prototyping
Testing
During testing, I see if the design works by trying it with different users. Testing can happen at any stage, and there are various methods to do it.
In the testing phase the design can be tested as a whole or parts of the design can be tested individually. The main goal of testing is to ensure that the solutions I have employed to meet my clients goals and the users' needs work. This phase is useful for avoiding personal biases. The following are useful testing techniques to use depending on the situation.
- Gorilla Testing
- A/B Testing
- In-person Interview
- Recorded Session
- Lab Usability Testing
- Observation Testing

While I'm designing, I structure my design files in a way that makes the development process as easy as possible. Utilizing pages, sections, and frames to separate different flows ensures that the client and developer know what they are looking at when they view my file. In addition, I leave comments on the file explaining transition, animation, and interaction if prototyping is not being utilized. The following are things I include in the hand off:
- A design brief outlining design implementations and decisions
- Notes for the developer explaining feature sets, transitions, etc.
- Workable prototype (if applicable) demonstrating user flows, interactions, and animations
- Properly structured and organized file
